I’ve been toying for a while with what to do with Sex Blog (of Sorts) going forward. Reader numbers are through the floor, as is social media engagement, but I miss writing … so maybe the blog will disappear and a Substack or similar will replace it in time. Who knows?
As for the gift guide, this is, incredibly, the tenth year that I’ve done one for Christmas. And, sadly, probably the last. I had a baby this year and while maternity leave just about allows the time for this kind of thing, it seems unlikely that returning to work and wrangling a toddler will. So, consider this a last hurrah. Format remains similar to previous years – 30 gift ideas for everyone in your life, plus a suggestion for a charitable donation.
It’s been fun!
1. Postal worker delivery bag toy, £14.57

I first saw this in the online shop for the Postal Museum in London and I think it’s super cute. How much of that can be attributed to the fact that I live for little treats arriving in the mail, who knows…
2. Christmas movies biscuits, £39.95

Yes, okay, Biscuiteers stuff is pricey, but this makes a slightly more unusual gift for a film lover (and the biscuits are beautiful *and* yummy, I promise). There are Black Friday discounts, too.

Perfect for the wild swimmer in your life. They are made to order though, so if you want one, move quickly…

Cute stocking filler for the person (or people) you fancy…
5. Cookie Monster macarons, £14

*Need*.
6. Abacus meets atoll necklace, £29

Really delicate and very pretty. Perfect gift for a friend.
7. Hairy Maclary and Zachary Quack Board Book, £6.99

The original Hairy Maclary was published over 40 years ago and it’s a pretty nice story to read. Zachary Quack though is a new discovery of mine this year – I can almost recite it off by heart and we still read it most nights. It really is *that* good.

Two things: 1) I haven’t actually tried this and 2) It’s currently out of stock. That said, it sounds pretty delicious, and it looks like it might well be available again before Christmas. If so, I’d pair it with this.

For your green-fingered friend. Tuck a voucher for somewhere like Patch plants (or your local garden centre) inside and you have a complete gift. Also a ton of other designs where you could also combine with a voucher: book money, pizza money, and even, if you’re feeling super generous: road trip money.

Look, I’m not pretending £225 isn’t a huge amount of money. But for *fun* cashmere? I’d love you forever.

It’s just *so* pretty.
12. Bat Rat, £35.99

I first saw this guy in a local garden centre. He’s very silly but he’s also very lovable and he’d make you smile every Christmas.
13. Melissa & Doug Scoop and Serve Ice Cream Counter, £49.99

Every kid I know who has this loves this.
14. Personalised gift voucher, £11.95

Cute idea if you’d like to give something more aesthetically pleasing than a print out of what you’ve booked but you’re not artistically inclined.
15. Burgundy multicolour striped scarf, £95

I’ll be honest, I don’t have to buy for many men so I find it hard coming up with good things for men to put on here. I do like this scarf though, and it’s currently on Black Friday offer so much less than the price above.
16. Papier mini photobook, £24

The quality of these is just lovely. Would make a great gift for grandparents etc.
17. 12 Chocolate Robin Eggs, £14.50

Another good one for grandparents, these chocolate robin eggs are filled with crispy praline and come in beautiful packaging.
18. £100 to spend at independent pubs, £25

A pack of ten beer mats to show at any ten of 60+ independent pubs in London. Show a beer mat at each pub to get £10 off £20+ spend. The pack also includes a map and a stack of collectible informative beer mats to learn more about and support a fantastic selection of London pubs.
19. Cat in carrier felted decoration, £10

This makes me laugh every time I see it, and I’m not even a cat person.
20. Desert sunrise bookends, £68.23

These are supposedly for kids, but they’re so lovely, if I could justify spending this much on bookends, I would.

Sleek, stylish and currently on offer for 25% less than the price above.
22. Feathers McGraw knitted soft toy, £32

Because he’s knitted he’s an adult soft toy, not a kids’ one, right?
23. Stripe and Stare neon knickers, £18

A little colour for a dark winter. These are significantly discounted from the price above today and multi pair purchase deals are available year round. Personally I find the Brazilian knickers fit better than the original style…
24. Britain’s best bakeries, £22.95

Personally I would love to make it a mission to tick off as many of these as I could in a year.
25. Arket cotton wool pouffe, £149

Perhaps odd to buy someone what is essentially a piece of furniture, but this is really unusual, I think, especially for the high street.
26. Three months of Christmas magic, £82

A gift that combines the best of Bloom & Wild: one of their tiny Christmas trees followed by two months of flower deliveries.
27. Benefit Lookin’ Crisp gift set, £85

I feel too old for Benefit products now (although I still swear by their waxing), but I really like the aesthetics of the gift sets this year, especially this large packet of crisps. A good one for teenagers, I reckon. Discounts on the price above definitely available.
28. Substack gift subscription, £ various

There are way more Substacks I’d like yo subscribe to than I could ever justify. A few of my current faves are Crib Notes, I’ve Got a Feeling, and You Get in Love and Then You Die. If you have a friend with similar taste in books to yours, I reckon a Substack gift subscription to something you like is a safe bet as an alternative. Also good if you need something at the last minute.
29. Gower cottage brownies, £19.99

The website claims these will be the best brownies you’ve ever tasted, and based on the gift I received after having the baby (and I got sent *many* different brands of brownies), I’d have to agree.
30. The Crisp Sommelier, £12.99

I reckon you could make a *great* hamper by buying this, flicking through it, choosing a few of the pairings, buying the crisps and the wine, and packaging them together with the book in a cute box.
